Photographer Emily Robinson’s mother Cindy has had schizophrenia since her early 20s. As a way to honor her mother, Emily has created this video to try and humanize the illness and show that people living with schizophrenia are not just the people we see in the movies or on the streets.
“What people need to understand is that when someone is behaving that way they are so sick. They are a victim of their illness,” Emily says. “I’m hoping that by sharing, I can put a more human face on our story. I’m hoping I can honor my mom. I’m hoping to make some small difference so my mom’s life goes on the record as being important. Because it is. She is. We all are.”
