The new documentary, At The Heart Of Gold: Inside The USA Gymnastics Scandal “shines a light on the shocking stories of gymnast survivors who made courageous efforts to reveal a dangerous system that prioritized winning over everything.”

Based on years of research by producers David Ulich and Dr. Steven Ungerleider (both who’ve been involved in the Olympic Movement for 40 years), and directed by Erin Lee Carr, the film takes a close look at how abusers like Dr. Larry Nassar, the osteopathic physician for the U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics team, could go unchecked for so many years.

“Featuring exclusive interviews with dozens of survivors, as well as coaches, lawyers and journalists, the film exposes an environment in which young women spent their youth competing for victory on a world stage, juxtaposed against a culture where abuse was hidden, and lives were forever damaged.”

At The Heart Of Gold: Inside The USA Gymnastics Scandal will premier on HBO, May 3 at 8 p.m. EST.
