In this episode of “Why Technology Is So Freakin’ Awesome,” 30-year-old Tatiana Guerra is at an ultrasound appointment with her doctor. She’s 20 weeks pregnant, but cannot see what other expectant moms get to see at this type of visit because she’s blind, having lost her sight at age 17.
As she asks her doctor to describe to her what her son looks like, he, in response, asks Tatiana how she imagines her little Murilo.
While this conversation is going on, what Tatiana does not know is that the ultrasound image of her son’s face is being transmitted to a mobile 3D printer in an adjacent room.
15 minutes later, the doctor puts something in Tatiana’s hands and says, “That’s your son…”
