In 2015 Sarai Walker caused a buzz with her first novel Dietland and now, the bestselling book is coming to the small screen in a new 10-episode series airing on AMC Monday, June 4.
The story follows Plum Kettle, a ghost-writer for the editor of a stereotypical fashion magazine, as she “struggles with self-image and sets out on a wildly complicated road to self-acceptance.” But this is not the typical story of self-discovery in the expected self-help kind of way. With a satirical twist, adventure, intrigue and murder, ’Dietland’ takes on the issues of patriarchy, misogyny, rape culture and unrealistic beauty standards.
Filmed in New York City, the series stars Joy Nash (“The Mindy Project”) as Plum, and Julianna Margulies (“The Good Wife”) as Kitty Montgomery, the passive aggressive editor stuck in the dark ages.
“‘Dietland’ focuses on some of the important issues and conversations happening today and offers a witty and insightful look at the war of the sexes,” said David Madden, president of original programming for AMC, in a press release about the series.
Definitely will be putting this on our must-watch list. Hopefully it will do the book justice!
