Have you ever been stuck in an awkward situation, praying your phone would ring so you could politely extract yourself? Of course you have. That’s why a team of creative inventors at iStrategyLabs made Dorothy, part physical device (a.k.a. “Ruby”) and part mobile App that work together to “make any dumb shoe smart.”

Here’s how she works… you simply slip the “Ruby” into your shoe, and whenever you tap your heels together three times a la Judy Garland, the mobile app will trigger your phone to do cool things (all predetermined actions).

For the moment, Dorothy can place a call to your phone from a fake contact (your “boss”) with the goal of getting you out of an uncomfortable in-person exchange. She can also send custom text messages to your friends with your current location, letting them know exactly where you are.

As part of her evolution, Dorothy will soon be able to trigger actions like summoning an Uber, or ordering a pizza, among other things that iStrategyLabs is encouraging users to dream up and share with them.

Maybe someday, Dorothy will even be able to transport you all the way… home. Doubtful, but it was too tempting to not go for the cheesiest reference.
