“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” – Wayne Dyer

Working from this concept, Cape Town based photographer Anelia Loubser shot a series of rather unusual portraits using creative tactics intended to challenge the viewer to refocus and see something totally unexpected. By simply hard cropping on her subjects’ foreheads and then flipping those images 180 degrees, the human faces of ordinary men and women are transformed into creepy mugshots of alien-like creatures.

Anelia’s ALIENATION is disconcerting beauty at its finest…

Anelia, who loves telling stories through photographs, issued this challenge on her facebook page, “Let’s have some fun! We now know that we all have an alienated being trapped inside just waiting to reveal itself. So, take a photo of your forehead, make it Black&White and rotate it 180 degrees. Share it and let the world meet your unique alienated personality! GO!!”

Soooooooo… our co-founder Jen Jones, who never shies away from a challenge or the chance to have some silly fun, let us “alienate” her. When she met her other face, she said, “Finally… a useful purpose for my dark circles. They add such sinister beauty to my alien self.”
