During its D23 Expo today, Disney released the first trailer for A Wrinkle In Time. Directed by Ava DuVernay (Selma), the highly-anticipated feature film is an adaptation of the award-winning science fantasy novel by American writer Madeleine L’Engle, first published in 1962.

Set to open in US theaters on March 9, 2018, the film boasts a script written by Oscar-winning Frozen writer and co-director Jennifer Lee, who counts the classic book as one of her childhood favorites, and is carried by a stellar cast. The big screen talent includes: Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Peña, Levi Miller, Deric McCabe, André Holland, Rowan Blanchard with Zach Galifianakis and Chris Pine and introduces Storm Reid.

“You have to write the book that wants to be written. And if the book will be too difficult for grown-ups, then you write it for children.” – Madeleine L’Engle

“A Wrinkle in Time,” winner of the Newbery Medal in 1963, is the story of the adventures in space and time of Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin O’Keefe. They are in search of Meg’s father, a scientist who disappeared while engaged in secret work for the government on the tesseract problem (a tesseract is a wrinkle in time). It’s the first book of L’Engle’s “Time Quintet,” which also includes “A Wind in the Door,” “A Swiftly Tilting Planet,” “Many Waters,” and “An Acceptable Time.”
