Since January 2018, dozens of Native American Women have disappeared in Montana. In this short film from Gen [R], reporter Kris Reyes explores why this is happening and what is being done about it. She interviews Kimberly Loring, whose sister Ashley is one of the many who have gone missing, Native filmmakers and activists Ivy and Ivan MacDonald who are working to bring attention to this ongoing epidemic that no one is paying attention to, and advocate Lucy Simpson from the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center.
The statistics are startling… nearly half of the missing person cases in Montana are Native women, even though Native people just make up 6 percent of the population. But, even more startling is the lack of action being taken.
Montana is just one of many states and countries experiencing this epidemic. To learn more visit http://www.niwrc.org/
