“Fangirl” Danielle Taylor from Douglasville, GA was really disappointed in her high school’s prom theme, Sweet Dreams (Candy Land), so she set out to do something else altogether, and showed up dressed as DC Comics superhero, Green Arrow. This girl is clearly the hero of her own story.
Inspired by the television show Arrow, Danielle shared photos of her gown, inclusive of the signature hood and bow, with series star Stephen Amell. In a Facebook post to him, she explains why she chose to dress as Green Arrow:
I went to prom as Green Arrow because my school’s prom theme was awful, it was called Sweet Dreams (or Candy Land). So being the nerdy person I am, I designed my prom outfit after the Arrow, and said, “Prom, you have failed this high-school.” That’s me in the Green dress in the pictures, and then my friend Grace in the top middle, who encouraged me to dress like this (she’s also a big fan of the show!), and my friend Ashlyn in the other pictures with me, as The Flash! I got a lot of stares at prom, and then the day after I heard people asking other people if they saw the girl with the hood, and then proceeding to ask who it was! Little did they know that it was me. So a hood really does hide your identity! lol!
Look forward to seeing you and everyone else at Dragon Con!
To Danielle’s surprise and delight, not only did Stephen comment on her post, he shared it with his close to 4 million Facebook fans.
Growing up in a family with comic book loving parents, and two older brothers obsessed with “Star Wars and all that stuff,” it’s no surprise that Danielle developed her own passion for “things like comic books, Star Trek, and so much more.” Danielle told WYSK, “In a way I have always been a ‘fangirl’, but I’d say it was a bit before high school that I really started to embrace the geeky person I am!”
So what’s next for this awesome geek girl? Danielle tells us she’s working on building up her portfolio and plans to pursue the arts, drawing, painting and acting. But what’s most important to her is to find a way to serve as an inspiration to others.
“After Stephen shared my post about my dress I received an abundance of kind comments and messages. But what really made my day is when I would receive a comment or message about how I was an inspiration to them,” Danielle says. “One of the reasons I’d like to get into acting is not just because I think it would be something I’d enjoy doing, but also because I would like to be someone that people could look up to and inspire them to be themselves and not to worry about what others think of them, to be an inspiration, good example, and help others.”
Seems like this superhero is on her way to achieving her goal!
