The gaming industry is expected to generate sales of $100 billion this year, and they have women to thank for that!

Yep, the gaming world, which notoriously depicts women in demeaning and unrealistic ways, or ignores them altogether, and which has been regularly criticized for its treatment of female gamers, has finally recognized the importance of targeting women as a way to boost its sales.

According to the Entertainment Software Association, female gamers made up about 48% of the game-playing public in the U.S. this year, up from 40% in 2010.

The statistic that blew us away is that women over 18-years-old now represent more of the gaming population than boys under 18.

Hopefully, these new statistics will help to end geek elitism and give female gamers the respect they duly deserve!
