What if all the action heroes who saved the world, day in and day out… were girls? That’s what our friends at GoldieBlox asked and answered in this brilliant stop motion video featuring Ruby Rails, the company’s newest tech loving superhero and her engineering friend Goldie.

In the video, Ruby and Goldie take the place of iconic movie heroes including Indiana Jones, James Bond, Rocky and Marty McFly, among several others. Throughout the action-filled spot, the company also shares recent statistics regarding the representation of women in Hollywood films.

“Our girls deserve to see themselves on-screen and calling the shots behind the scenes. Our girls deserve more.”

Only 12% of protagonists in major Hollywood films are female. Even in the background, in crowded wide shots, women only make up about 17% of those shown in live action and animated movies. Among the highest grossing G-rated films of all time, female characters are outnumbered by male characters by three to one. This is a problem.”

Since the company launched in 2012, founder Debbie Sterling and her team have been committed to building young girls’ interest in STEM. With this new video, they hope to show girls what they aren’t seeing on the big screen, and to “imagine themselves as the stars, not the sidekicks, of their own story.” Mission accomplished. #PlayLikeAHero
