We’ve seen some really clever reimagined versions of Disney Princesses (with moms, as Wonder Woman, racebent, as real life role models), but none quite as grossly appealing as the creative handiwork of Anna Hezel and Gabriella Paiella, the resident dynamic “Deranged Crafts” duo from Lucky Peach. When they recently put their heads together and thought about what kinds of Disney princesses would inspire them most, they thought of hot dogs… “Obviously.”
Both writers by trade, these two women know food, and know how to play with it. And what they’ve done with their latest Deranged Craft is nothing short of amazing, as they’ve proven that it doesn’t take much to transform Disney Princesses, namely Rapunzel, Ariel, Belle, and Pocahontas, into processed meat sticks (ok, ok… so maybe they used all-beef, organic wieners). Any way you serve it, they’ve rendered both a feast for the eyes and stomach.
So once the hot dogs were boiled, and nestled regally into their buns with princess attire precision-lessly fashioned from processed American cheese and red onions, Anna and Gabriella gazed lovingly at their reimagined Disney Princesses and were overcome with inspiration. “It was incredible to imagine these hot dogs doing all of the great passive things that the original princesses did, like looking nice, singing beautiful songs, marrying princes (hot dog wedding!), and getting helped by men.”
If you’re up for recreating this deranged craft, Anna and Gabriella have graciously supplied both the ingredients list as well as the step by step directions here. We should mention, we’re also BIG fans of their Spa Lady Cheese Ball, so check her out too.
