It’s Election Day 2012 and while we all wait in LONG lines to cast our respective votes for President, Sheryl Crow is giving us someone else to consider as the future (think 2016) leader of the Free World… a woman! The award winning singer/songwriter just debuted this video for her new song – “Put A Woman In The White House” – and she’s donating a portion of the proceeds from all iTunes downloads of her election themed release to the American Red Cross.

In the toe tapping, country sounding ditty, Crow sings: “We could use a little female common sense, down on Pennsylvania Avenue. After 230-something years of waiting, it’s way past overdue. Yeah, I think it’s time we put a woman in the White House. Girls, how ’bout you?”

Sheryl Crow Woman In The White House Song ImageryWhile some see it as an empowering anthem of sorts, a few feminists have taken issue with Crow’s line “it’s time to clean up Capitol Hill with a shovel and a pair of high heels” and her site’s use of an image of a woman in black patent stilettos straddling the White House, criticizing both as sexualized messages surrounding a female President.

Since we love a great pair of shoes and would be duly impressed with any woman who could balance the national budget while balancing in six inch heels, the lyric doesn’t ring such a controversial tune with us. But, we must admit that the critics do have a solid point with regard to the image… not sure we want our first female President to look like she’s exercising her executive powers dominatrix-style, a la Fifty Shades of Grey.

The one thing we do need to ask is, “Sheryl… did you REALLY have to make the future female President’s phone pink in the video?” For the love of all things good and right in the world, not ALL of us like pink!

All in all, it’s a catchy little tune and we like the spirit behind it. Have a watch/listen and let us know what you think. Again, if you like it, you can download it here and Sheryl will donate a portion of the proceeds to the American Red Cross.
