British travel writer, Lois Pryce has found a way to combine two of her greatest loves… motorcycles and writing. The adventure traveler, also known as Lois on the Loose, has taken solo rides across the Americas and Africa, and recently finished a 3000 mile journey through Iran.
“Of all my journeys, this is the one that has affected me the most profoundly,” Lois said of her adventure. “The popular image of Iran here in the West is of course, hardly welcoming, and I admit I set off with some trepidation – was it really wise for me to ride a motorcycle alone in this pariah nation of Islamic extremists, with all its gruesome facts and figures surrounding women’s rights, free speech and treatment of political prisoners? But when I dug a little deeper it seemed as though there was another story to be told.”
With a network of contacts made through British-Iranian friends, Lois received ample support throughout her adventure, and is planning to chronicle the trip in a forthcoming book. In the meantime, she shares this short film, giving us a firsthand look at what she discovered about Iran and its people.
“If I’ve learned anything from my travels it’s that a nation’s government and its people are entirely unconnected. And as soon as I crossed the border it became apparent that the Iranian people were going to make me fall head over heels in love with their country.”
