By Pamela Delgado – I started Rawly Bold in October 2017 to create a space where positivity was restored and our ability to dream and take action for what is right is in the forefront. Things had become consistently negative in the world, so I set out on a path to inspire, motivate and empower women. My vehicle of choice… hand-printed, ethically made fashion and goods, by women for women.

One of the other motivating factors that drove me to create this brand and design my own future was pay inequality, an injustice far too many other women have experienced. Two years ago, I found out a few of my coworkers were making up to $30k more (annually) than me, yet we were all doing the same type of work. I am a mother of two little boys, so you can imagine how important that $30k is to me. I decided to have conversations with my higher-ups.

The first discussion took place before I was expecting baby number two. The second happened while I was pregnant. The very last was when I returned from maternity leave and learned that my entire first check, post-leave, was garnished to pay back my medical insurance. Livid doesn’t even describe how I felt. I was told “NO!” each time, and given a series of excuses that to this day do not justify their decision.

It was time to take matters into my own hands. I had nothing to lose. I still work for the same company, but they are now my investor, in other words… I use the salary I earn from them to fund and grow my business. I still have my challenges, but nothing beats doing something for yourself and building the life of your dreams.

Words have a way with resonating with people, which is all of our Rawly Bold T-shirts, tanks, sweatshirts, and accessories are emblazoned with them, each carefully chosen for the huge impact we hope they’ll have.

I also work really really hard at making sure our quality is not only amazing, but ethical. So I’m very proud of the fact that our goods are made ethically in Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) certified factories. WRAP is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting good and fair working conditions through certification and dedication. Everything we offer is hand-printed in Brooklyn, NY using non-toxic water-based ink.

For me to proceed with this mission it was critical for me to give back. That’s why from its inception, Rawly Bold has donated a portion of our proceeds to organizations we love. They currently include Planned Parenthood, Everytown, and the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union).

Through Rawly Bold what I’ve created is a driver of unity and sisterhood. It’s a celebration of every woman. So I want you all to know that we can continue to thrive regardless of the obstacles that come our way, regardless of the color of our skin and where we were born. Just remember to always be you… be raw… be bold.
