President Obama recently sat down with top YouTube creators Destin Sandlin, Ingrid Nilsen and Adande Thorne to answer questions regarding health care, minimum wage, marriage equality, gun control, education, the tampon tax, and a slew of other topics concerning the American people.
In his interview with Ingrid Nilsen, the President confessed that he had no idea 40 U.S. states impose a tax on feminine hygiene products. His response was much like our own…
“I have no idea why states would tax these as luxury items, I suspect it’s because men were making the laws when those taxes were passed.”
Women have been mobilizing to get the tampon tax removed, back in December we shared a petition to U.S. State Legislators to stop taxing our periods, which has been gaining traction. In fact, earlier this month, lawmakers in California introduced a bill that would give feminine hygiene products tax exempt status. But there’s still more work to be done.
