As one of the first women to stand up and speak out about Harvey Weinstein, actor and activist Rose McGowan has been front and center of the #MeToo movement. Now she is inviting us to “see the world” through her eyes in the new docu-series Citizen Rose.
A two-hour documentary, followed by four episodes, are in partnership with E! (yes, the network that was recently called out for pay inequity) and will follow McGowan as she works on her her “memoir/manifesto,” BRAVE.
“I grew up with injustice, I grew up with seeing my mother harassed and I decided not to stay silent,” Rose said in a press release from the television network. “Massive social change starts with just going outside of the system.”
In the span of ten days, Rose McGowan was arrested, met with former President Barack Obama, and became one of TIME Magazine’s “People of the Year,” all while navigating the minefield of those trying to silence her.
“Citizen Rose” is a project that reflects a dramatically changing world. “Citizen Rose” is McGowan’s world: the art, the #ROSEARMY, her special punk brand of activism and the music she makes to heal. By going up against the Hollywood machine, McGowan has shown true courage in the face of adversity and this documentary will take you behind-the-scenes of her tumultuous and fascinating life. She will process, in almost real-time, the massive social change she has helped usher in as well as fight back against those who have hurt so many, including her.
The event series premieres January 30 on E!
