“They’re just like people – every one of them has a past when they come in. Most of them come from a place of loss, like a big place of loss. Once they’re here though, they’re safe.” – Susie Coston

In this powerful, 4-minute film directed by Kelly Guerin for the Unbound Project, we have the incredible opportunity to meet Susie Coston, a true hero for animals, and see her in action.

As the National Shelter Director of Farm Sanctuary, the leading farm animal protection organization in the United States, Susie not only saves the lives of the animals in front of her, she inspires compassion for all animals by telling their stories with humour, grace, and love. She has led countless people to connect with farmed animals in ways they never thought possible.

The film shares Susie’s touching words about the power of sanctuary and about how she came to work with animals after coming through her own personal struggle.

Under Susie’s leadership, Farm Sanctuary’s shelters in New York and California provide lifelong care for nearly 1,000 rescued farm animals. The organization also works to promote “legislative, policy, and individual lifestyle changes to help farm animals.”
