Yesterday was “Thanks, Birth Control” day, but we’re so thankful that we think it deserves another day. The campaign was launched last year in an effort to start a new and positive conversation about birth control and all that it makes possible.

According to the The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, the vast majority of single young adults say they don’t want a pregnancy right now, yet 4 in 10 of those who are having sex are not using contraception consistently. More than half of sexually active college-age women say they would be more comfortable using contraception if more people talked about it in a positive way.

So, here are just a few reasons why we are thankful for birth control: for giving us the power to decide when to get pregnant or not; for the freedom to enjoy sex, without the risk of pregnancy; and for the choice to live our lives on our own terms. Something many women around the world are still unable to do.

Keep the positive messages coming by sharing why you are thankful for birth control using the hashtag #ThxBirthControl!
