Yesterday, the Chicago Tribune tweeted a link to a story* they did on Team USA’s Corey Cogdell-Unrein after she won the bronze medal in women’s trap shooting… but rather than name the accomplished three-time Olympian, they opted, rather, to identify her as “Wife of a Bears’ lineman”. That’s when the good people of the Twittersphere stepped in and swiftly called out the newspaper’s ignorant, sexist slight, offering a few brilliant copy alternatives (some of which, loaded with snark, predict how the Trib might cover a Hillary Presidential win).
* The Trib’s stupidity went beyond just this 140 character Tweet. Their article’s headline and first paragraph solely describe Corey as “wife of Bears lineman Mitch Unrein”.
