In less than 2 months, fans (like us) of Orange is the New Black will be in streaming/binging heaven when season 5 of the critically-acclaimed Netflix original series is released on June 9, 2017. As this first look shows, the action at Litchfield picks up right where we left off in last year’s dramatic season four cliffhanger. From there, the story will continue to unfold over 13 episodes that cover just three days inside the women’s prison.
According to Danielle Brooks, who plays OITNB’s Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson, “Season five is done over the course of three days.” She added, “So, it will be very detailed, very intense, and you better get ready. Get your popcorn, your tissues, everything.”
Orange is the New Black, created and executive produced by Emmy Award-winner Jenji Kohan, is based on the best-selling memoir of the same name by Piper Kerman, and stars a diverse and award-winning ensemble of talented women. Still touted as the most-watched original series on Netflix, it was renewed for three additional seasons last February. So OITNB devotees can revel in knowing that this upcoming season five will definitely be followed by a six and seven.
