“You don’t want to grow up to be a character in a book. You want to grow up to be a powerful woman.” – Girl Scouts

Meet Girl Scout Troop 3484 (Greater New York), an inspiring group of young activists on a determined mission to spread awareness about the Monumental Women campaign from the Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony Statue Fund, a non-profit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to placing the first statue honoring real women in New York City’s Central Park.

“There are no statues honoring real women in Central Park. There are statues of Alice in Wonderland, Mother Goose, and Juliet (with Romeo), but no tributes to the real women who made this City, State, and Nation great,” said Pam Elam, founder of Monumental Woman. “There are numerous representations of the female form (like angels, nymphs and allegorical figures), but statues celebrating the vast and varied contributions of real women are nowhere to be found.”

Watch as the Girl Scouts, who’ve already raised and contributed $1,920 to the historic cause, explain why their efforts are important to everyone… not just girls.
