This ad for British mobile phone company Kazam got put on our radar after Business Insider reported it “has been banned in the UK on the grounds that it was likely to objectify women.”
It’s intended to promote what the brand is touting as the world’s slimmest Smartphone. How ironic that they created the world’s dumbest ad to market it.
The ad received eight complaints because “it was overtly sexual and objectified women, and because the content bore no relationship to the advertised product,” according to the Advertising Standards Authority’s (ASA) adjudication published Wednesday. Across the pond, it only takes one complaint for the ASA to investigate an ad to see if it’s in breach of the UK’s advertising codes.
If only our advertising watchdogs were as stringent here in the US.
